Hadith 1725 - Bab 321 (Prohibition of Conferring a Title of Honor upon a Sinner, a Hypocrite, and the Like)
Chapter 18 (The Book of the Prohibited actions)

Buraidah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "Do not address a hypocrite with the title of chief, (or similar titles of respect) for even if he deserves this title you will invite Allah's Wrath by using it for him."
